Morecambe Bay GP services amongst the best in England

Latest inspections have rated the quality of GP services in Morecambe Bay amongst the top in England.
The latest report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) shows that nationally GP practices are “delivering improvement and innovation, despite facing “very real pressures”.
Exceeding the national average, 93% of GP practices in NHS Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have been rated as good or outstanding.
Dr Alex Gaw, GP and Chair of NHS Morecambe Bay CCG, said: “The national CQC report has highlighted that despite many GP surgeries being under huge pressure, local GPs are working extremely hard across Morecambe Bay to meet the needs of their local population. It’s fantastic that our residents have access to a good or outstanding GP service, it’s something we should celebrate,”
Inspections of all GP surgeries started early last year with inspectors visiting the practices and assessing the quality of care based on information gathered from the practice and interviews with staff and patients. The GP practices were then rated from ‘inadequate’ to ‘outstanding’ dependent upon the findings.
Dr Gaw added: "Being rated so highly, exceeding the national average, shows that Morecambe Bay remains a wonderful place for GPs to wok and a great place to get high quality healthcare”
"Many of our GPs describe Morecambe Bay as being a friendly and supportive place to work, offering numerous opportunities to develop interests in general and as a doctor."

Morecambe Bay is one of five local partnerships which make up Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria, the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership. The other areas are Pennine Lancashire, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast, Central Lancashire and West Lancashire. Each of these five areas faces challenges, some are unique to a specific area and others are collective challenges faced across the whole of Lancashire and South Cumbria.
