New resource for Fylde coast services information launched

Fylde coast residents will be able to find local health, social and community services information within the click of a button thanks to the launch of new, unique local directory.

The new FYi Directory, which has been developed jointly by the local NHS organisations and councils across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre provides a comprehensive list of over 3,000 local services, support groups, childcare providers and activities.

Listings range from statutory health and social care services to local sports clubs, community support groups and volunteering opportunities, plus much more.

Accessible online at www.fyidirectory.co.uk, the directory is the first of its kind in the country and includes a number of intelligent features, some of these are:

• A simple postcode search, allowing people to find the services nearest to them. You can also view search results on a map and get directions thanks to connectivity with Google Maps.
• A free text messaging service which allows anybody using the directory to send information listings directly to a mobile, at no cost.
• A shortlist function, similar to an online shopping basket. This means you can collect a number of chosen listings at a time to view or print later.
• An events calendar, find out what’s happening near you in the coming days.

Dr Tony Naughton, a Thornton GP and clinical chief officer at NHS Fylde and Wyre CCG, said: “Often people don’t know where to start when they’re looking for information about local services or groups, it can be confusing and a little overwhelming for some. The directory is our answer to trying to simplify that.

“We’ve done lots of testing of it with members of the public and professional groups, taking on board their feedback to improve it further as we’ve gone along. We’re really pleased to be able to launch it and let people start to feel the benefit of accessing this comprehensive resource.

“From my perspective, as a GP it will be a really valuable tool and help me direct people who sometimes don’t need medical help but could benefit from other things like being more active or meeting others with a similar condition.”

Cllr Amy Cross, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, said: “This is a handy tool to help people easily find information and access services close to them.

“Whether people are online or simply want somebody at the end of the phone, hopefully this directory will point them in the right direction for help to stay healthy.”

Holly Whittaker, Partnerships Officer for Fylde Council added: “This is a fantastic initiative that Fylde Council is proud to be supporting. This tool will ensure local residents have easy access to important information and community groups, enabling them to get out and about and meeting people in their communities.”

Cllr Vivien Taylor, Wyre Council portfolio holder for Health and Community Engagement, also commented: “This is a wonderful tool that will benefit local residents, allowing them to gain access to services that will benefit their health and wellbeing.”

Anybody without computer access can contact the FYi helpline on 0800 092 2332 between 9am and 5pm on Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays. A member of the team will be able to assist with finding local service information and if required can arranged for physical copies of this to be sent via post.
