Nursing Associate Apprenticeship Programme

As part of National Apprenticeship Week (5-9 March), Lancashire Care is working in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and local NHS organisations to deliver The Nursing Associate Programme in Lancashire.
Apprenticeships are available to people of all ages making them a great option for anyone looking to change their career path or improve their skills. The Trust is committed to providing alternative opportunities to college and university to help people develop in to long-term successful careers, whilst training on the job.
Lancashire Care is the lead organisation across the Lancashire and Cumbria test site and is recruiting the next cohort of trainees for June 2018. The Trust is committed to recruiting staff with the right skills, experience and knowledge in order to deliver high quality care for people in Lancashire. The Nursing Associate role will allow the Trust to grow its current workforce and provide new opportunities to experienced health care support workers.
Nursing Associate Trainees will be paid, whilst attending university one day per week and will have the opportunity to attend clinical placements in a range of different learning environments. The course will provide the opportunity for them to be able to administer medicines, perform clinical procedures, care plan, risk assess and many more skills relevant to their scope of practice.

“Nursing Associates are a highly trained and skilled part of the workforce. They will support registered nurses and work in partnership to deliver high quality care to a range of service users. The role is not replacing nurses however, it is recognised nationally that there is a shortage of nurses and so by utilising the apprenticeship levy we can bridge the gap between healthcare support workers and registered nurses and help towards some of the long term staffing issues within the NHS.
“It’s a very exciting time to be part of this new role and seeing how our current trainees have grown and developed in such a short period of time!”
An essential requirement for the programme is a Maths and English qualification equivalent to GCSE A-C. This also includes functional skills level 2 and key skills level 3. Participants will also need a minimum of 12 months experience within the area they are applying for and be able to demonstrate the ability to study at level 5.
We will be advertising for a mixture of internal and external posts across the organisation and adverts will be on TRAC and NHS jobs between March and April.
