Improving health and wellbeing in Lancashire and South Cumbria - Population Health Summit

More than 100 delegates from Lancashire and South Cumbria heard from local, national and international speakers at our Population Health Summit, held in Preston on 11 July 2018. We brought together a wide range of partners to look at how we can work together across the wider public sector and use data more effectively to better understand the people we serve, provide better services and make the best use of our resources to improve health and wellbeing in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
What is Population Health?
Population Health is defined by NHS England as "the focus on improving outcomes, reducing inequalities and addressing the wider determinants of health".
Population Health Management "improves population health through data-driven decision making to plan and deliver proactive care to achieve the maximum impact".
About the Population Health Summit
The day's agenda was introduced by Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, SRO Prevention and Population Health / Director of Public Health, Lancashire County Council and Chair of the Digital Health Board and Dr Amanda Doyle, GP and Chief Officer for Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria.
An international perspective was given by speakers John Lee, Population Health Solutions Executive Director for Aetna and Dr Justin Whatling, Vice President of Population Health for Cerner.
Dr Claire Fuller, Senior Responsible Officer for Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership shared progress and learnings from Surrey. Jacquie White, Director, National System Transformation Group at NHS England gave a national perspective - the national offer and how we can shape this. Dr Mark Johnston, NHS Rightcare Delivery Partner spoke about unwarranted variation and how we can reduce inequalities in healthcare.
Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, Dr Andy Knox, GP and Director of Population Health and Engagement for Morecambe Bay ICP and Andrew Harrison, Chief Finance Officer for Fylde and Wyre CCG gave a local perspective - on the future development of workstreams, learnings from the vanguards and Population Health for commissioning.
